ACHIEVEMENTS:
• As a graduate – successfully identifying, testing and confirming that fine chromite could be recovered at our operations with the right approach. Recoveries of up to 30% of on-spec product was achieved at lab-scale. The project required significant stakeholder engagement, expectation management, planning, technical evaluation, quality control and had a steep learning curve.
• Disproved a promising processing technology, by conducting focused test work and representative testwork in a 3-month turnaround time. This was done by teaching and leading a small team to conduct the right testwork targeting the right variables. This saved the company further testwork, piloting and implementing costs. Due to the nature of the project, quality control, thorough planning and measurement, statistical confirmation, quick turnaround time and stakeholder engagement was essential.
• Proved a promising technology at pilot scale, which would have significant impact on water usage in the right application. These technologies had a better classification efficiency than the conventional solution in minerals processing and required the use of no water. The project required engagement with an international team, organization and logistics of the testwork programme, critical and technical thinking, and stakeholder and client engagement.
• Represented employees in a S189 process and managed to save a job through empowering the employee by creating the right platform to discuss their grievances with management.

Primary purpose of current/most recent position:
I identify novel technologies in the mineral processing industry and test their validity in our current mining environment. The position involves identifying these technologies, testing them, investigating their applicability in the current process, and either approving or disproving them for application. The applicability of the technologies depend on their impact in the process, i.e. energy, water, efficiency improvements.
Core elements or functions that must operate effectively in order to achieve primary purpose:
Identify and investigate gaps in the current processing structure.
Investigate how these gaps can be breached with either existing or new technologies.
Set up a testwork programme with key indicators/measurements of success for these technologies.
Conclusively approve OR disprove technologies. There is benefit in both.
