Risk & Analytics Executive ( Oil, Gas & Mining ), seeks a position as Chief Sustainability and Risk Officer (The role would combine the responsibilities of sustainability management with risk assessment and mitigation to integrate sustainability into the core business strategies while managing associated risks.
1. Sustainability Strategy Development
Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy that aligns with the organization's goals while setting measurable targets for reducing carbon footprints, improving resource efficiency, and sourcing sustainable materials.
Integration and collaboration with various departments to embed sustainability into all aspects of the business.
2. Risk Management
Identifying Sustainability Risks: risks related to sustainability, including environmental, reputational, financial, and operational risks. This involves evaluating potential impacts from climate change, regulatory changes, and resource scarcity, with mitigation measures which are implementable on a cost effective basis.
Compliance Oversight: for relevant environmental regulations and standards, mitigating risks associated with non-compliance.
3. Monitoring and Reporting
ESG Metrics Tracking: Monitoring and reporting on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance metrics which includes collecting data to assess progress towards sustainability goals and preparing reports for stakeholders based on an unqualified audit.
5. Innovation and Technology Adoption
Scouting New Solutions: emerging technologies that can enhance sustainability efforts, such as renewable energy sources or waste reduction processes.
Fostering a Culture of Change: culture change management is one of my specific areas of competence.
Continuous Improvement: Use feedback from performance evaluations to refine strategies and ensure that sustainability remains a priority within the organization’s operational framework.)

A dynamic results-driven admitted attorney with a proven track record of performance delivery in over 20 years of experience. From project managing regulatory projects to strategy development, her expertise also covers strategic thought leadership and governance, risk and compliance (GRC) management with a particular focus on sustainability. She holds a Sustainability Management Certificate from Cambridge University and completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Management, Business Studies at the Berlin ESMT. She was awarded an Africa Sustainability Leadership Award in 2016 in recognition of her contribution to sustainability thought leadership. She is a Global Compliance Institute Accredited Trainer, a Certified Director (SAIoD), a Certified Risk Management Professional and was the 2023 Risk Manager of the year (IRMSA).

As the CRO, I am in a fortunate (and at times precarious position): I have been given the leeway to hold the mirror up to my employer and to act as its conscience in guiding our senior leadership team in the implementation of new sustainability measures despite (or maybe that should read because of) the oil price game changer and the pressures which climate change are bringing to bear.

To effectively achieve my primary purpose as Chief Risk Officer (CRO) , several core elements and functions must operate seamlessly. These are essential for managing risks while aligning with the company’s strategic objectives.
1. Risk Management Framework
Comprehensive Risk Assessment: Implemented a robust framework that identifies, assesses, and prioritizes risks across all operations. This includes financial, operational, environmental, and reputational risks.
Risk Mitigation Strategies: Developed and enforced strategies to mitigate identified risks, ensuring that they align with Company's overall business objectives and sustainability goals.
2. Stakeholder Engagement
Effective Communication: I keep open lines of communication with stakeholders, including employees, investors, and community members. This fosters trust and ensures that stakeholder concerns are integrated into risk management processes.

My track record shows that I drive for results and have now been in the legal (LLB, LLM), commercial and management arena for 18 years. As such, I am able to assess regulatory compliance challenges and opportunities. I am a leader who mentors team members as the lifeblood of the company. I have been a cultural ambassador on our aspirational culture drive and run two mentorship circles. My strategic skills allow me to analyse and assess situations with a view to providing practical, cost effective results which deliver on business objectives on time. I have expertise in project managing regulatory projects, while building strong working relationships both within the company and also across to external stakeholders. I am also a trustee and have a responsibility to ensure that Enterprise, Supplier Development money and work is conducted appropriately and responsibly. I served on the Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) Advisory Council for Occupational Health and Safety where, guided by key principles of transparency and accountability, during COVID, I acted on behalf of broad business interests in South Africa and managed our Company's Crisis Management Response. I completed the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) Standards drafting term for the Oil, Gas and Coal sector. This was a unique opportunity to understand how best to transparently engaging investors and other stakeholders on the challenges the globe is facing from a resource constraint and climate change perspective.

I really enjoy that I can make a positive impact through driving environmental stewardship and contributing towards social responsibility. I am fortunate to play a role in developing and implementing sustainability strategies that influence the corporate direction in the right way! I also get to interact with various stakeholders from families in Mozambique to the Chairman of our Board.
