Having lived and worked in several African countries (Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Sudan, Mauritius) I appreciate the fact that each location has its own nuances but if I were to pick one skill that has been the most important for me personally in my African career to date, I would pick relationship building over other technical skills. What do you absolutely love doing:

At work, I love being part of a team. I enjoy the challenge of solving complex business problems especially when it involves cross-functional teams because then I get the chance to learn something that I may not have known before. In terms of work satisfaction, I feel happiest when I am able to pass on my knowledge and experience to younger colleagues and contribute to their development, I feel that its a responsibility that is often overlooked by senior professionals.
