For BMW SA it's more than just supplying outer body steel. It's about a lasting relationship. This transaction started as a cold call, but it evolved into a journey of great proportions. Significant challenges were faced, quality and local suppliers being some of the challenges. Consider that BMW manufactures exclusively on JIT principles. If you are a supplier you have to have stock on hand, in the correct quantities. What happens if a coil has surface damage, or rust? The supplier also has to commit in offering 6 month stable pricing. What happens if there is a strike at the port, or if the vessel sinks?
These were some of the challenges that I had to mitigate in order to sign a mutually beneficial agreement between all parties
