A Chemical Engineer with over a decade of expertise in diverse industrial sectors, primarily in PGMs mining and chromite mineral beneficiation plants, specializing in developing and implementing innovative solutions to improve production and efficiency. Primary purpose of current/most recent position:

I am responsible for providing Metallurgical support to the whole concentrator operation, as well as continuously monitoring production output and optimising process efficiency in line with plant capacity and sound processing principles to ensure KPI targets are exceeded from the ROM to the tailing disposal facility. This also includes the implementation of metallurgical projects, metal recovery enhancement, and plant expansion projects.

Core elements or functions that must operate effectively in order to achieve primary purpose:

The core elements of the concentrator plant that require effective operation for me to achieve my goal are the following:

Efficient Crushing -by maintaining correct crusher gaps to achieve the required size into the mill.
Efficient Screening -to ensure the correct size is reported to the correct place to avoid blockages of the chutes and feeders. To minimize downtime.
Efficient milling: to achieve target grind to ensure sufficient liberation to maximise metal recovery. Ensure mill load control to ensure milling optimally and without over consuming balls which will increase milling cost.
Efficient Flotation- to ensure proper control and stability to maximise recovery, maintaining mass pull on set point and reagents are dosing according to target to preserve the cost.
Ensure the required quality of the concentrate is achieved.
Efficient Thickening for maximising water recovery.
Efficient Filtration for ensuring moisture content is lower to minimise transport costs.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities of ideal position:

• Promoting health and safety in the working sections and ensure we comply with HSEQ standards, policies, and regulations.
• I ensure that produced Concentrate quality is delivered to customers as per Service Level Agreement.
• I identify and promote continuous plant improvement to ensure we achieve and surpass metallurgical KPIs.
• To provide day-to-day technical metallurgical support and coaching to process team and service providers.
• Monitor and evaluate metallurgical performance, and when required, conduct test/survey programs to improve performance, and recovery and ensure we operate within budget.
• Responsible for shifts, daily and monthly metallurgical balances, generating, and publishing required reports and developing models used to guide the operators.
• Managed successfully metallurgical lab and the pilot plant activities.
• Proven record for designing and costing of metallurgical test work programs.
• Supervise and Mentor the process team including all external stakeholders who are assigned to run plant trials and surveys in all sections around the concentrator section.
• Develop, review, and implement the standard operating procedures for the Met lab and metallurgical plant.
• Collaborate effectively with the cross-shift Metallurgist and Process Superintendent of different sections to ensure a smooth transition to provide continuous operational support.
• Manage the analysis/test works for the plant, pilot plants, a metallurgical laboratory, and associated test works,
• Oversee daily plant operations in a manner that speaks to continuous improvement, identify opportunities for improving plant efficiencies,
• Relieving Process Superintendents,
• Participating in management meetings (production cost and new projects/technologies),
• Responsible business Metallurgical Accounting, reporting, settlement, exchanging and umpiring
• Preparation of design calculation and mass & energy balance
• Participation in HAZOP/HAZAN studies,
• Commissioning, Preparation, execution, and troubleshooting,
• The setting of plant operation recipe i.e., setting correct reagent recipe, flotation circuit changes, and the correct parameters to operate at to achieve higher recoveries.
