Job Description:

Preference will be given to a candidate that has a minimum qualification of N3 or equivalent with a recognised Trade Test certificate in Electrical Engineering or Millwright.
Preference will be given to a candidate who has completed a National Diploma or higher in Electrical Engineering.
Additional experience and qualifications above the minimum requirements will be to the applicant’s advantage.

We are currently sourcing a Utilities Foreman with 7 to 10 years’ experience in the electrical field within a manufacturing environment for our client, to take full responsibility for the execution of maintenance interventions for all utilities infrastructure within the refinery.

Position details:

Type: Permanent
Primary purpose:

  • The position is responsible for the execution of maintenance interventions for all utilities infrastructure within the refinery. The utilities infrastructure includes the infrastructure for Electricity, Sasol Gas and Rand Water.
  • The position is required to provide and implement control systems and policies whilst optimising the interface between the maintenance unit and the customers.
  • The position will form an integral part in designing and managing the implementation of planned maintenance programmes for a specific business unit, in line with optimising Plant OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
  • The potential incumbent will be required to work rotational stand-by with other Foremen.

Major responsibilities:

  1. Resource planning and execution
    · Manage resources for optimal performance.
    · Assists in cost reduction initiatives by reducing waste and improving efficiencies.
  2. People management
    · Compilation of own PDP in conjunction with line manager.
    · Attend training interventions as per approved PDP.
    · Conducting 6 monthly performance reviews of sub-ordinates.
    · Compiling PDP for subordinates.
    · Ensuring that subordinates attend training interventions as per approved PDP.
    · Ensuring discipline is maintained as per company policies.
  3. Operational efficiencies
    · Compile electrical standards in conjunction with the Reliability and Engineering Managers.
    · Maintain earthing and bonding throughout the site.
    · Work in conjunction with the Reliability Team in setting up maintenance plans for utilities infrastructure.
    · Take accountability for the execution of utilities infrastructure in line with set maintenance plans.
    · Maintain and analyse energy requirement and seek areas, in conjunction with Production Teams, where consumption can be reduced.
    · Work in conjunction with the Reliability Manager and Senior Manager, Engineering in preparing the energy budget.
    · Check utilities bills for accuracy before they are processed for payment.
    · Take meter readings for tenants and submit figures to the finance department.
    · Conduct HT switching where required.
    · Comprehensive knowledge of heavy current.
    · Conduct 6-monthly Rand Water analysis at point of consumption to ensure suitability for human consumption.
    · Calibrate all meters where required.
    · Participate in Risk Assessments based on external and internal influences.
    · Participate in incident investigations.
    · Participate in any inspection or audit as may be required.
    · Execute utilities preventative maintenance systems through the management of maintenance performance KPI’s.
  4. Safety compliance
    · Implement, drive and monitor Zero Harm, practices, systems and processes, in areas of safety, health and environment.
    · Demonstrate felt safety leadership, amongst direct and indirect reports.
    · Monitor and share company-wide similarities/learning opportunities.
    · Ensure statutory compliance within the utilities infrastructure.
  5. SHEQ
    · Comply with and ensures that all health and safety rules are met and acts pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.
    · Manage subordinates and contractors health and safety and ensure no disabling injuries occur.
    · Participate in formal SHEQ Audits.
    · Ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  6. Quality
    · Manage resource for optimal performance.
    · Assists in cost reduction initiatives by reducing waste and improving efficiencies.

Job Qualification & Experience:

Minimum qualification:

  • Preference will be given to a candidate that has a minimum qualification of N3 or equivalent with a recognised Trade Test certificate in Electrical Engineering or Millwright.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate who has completed a National Diploma or higher in Electrical Engineering.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in computer literacy (MS office – Outlook, Word, Excel, SAP) SAP PM experience and/ or other CMMS is essential.
  • Good communicating skills (verbal and written).
  • Conflict management skills.
  • Risk management – Able to identify, manage and mitigate risks at source of the material and the supply chain.
  • Team management – Be able to handle a diverse team and be able to lead and/or be a team player in a team that would deliver results.
  • Trouble shooting skills – Able to diagnose and analyse.
  • Negotiating skills – Able to firmly but fairly negotiate with suppliers and customers at all levels, both locally and internationally.
  • Report writing skills – Able to produce reports that are timely, accurate, succinct and relevant.

Knowledge / experience:

  • Preference will be given to candidates that 7 to 10 years’ experience in the electrical field within a manufacturing environment.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate that has the following knowledge.
    • Processes in relating to Asset Care / Maintenance of the plant equipment performance and administration.
    • In-depth knowledge of Heavy Current Electrical systems
    • In-depth knowledge of HT switchgear and relevant switching procedure
    • In-depth knowledge of the permit to work system
    • Ability to set-up, understand and work to a specified budget
    • Ability to perform incident and accident investigations
    • Ability to schedule and conduct plant maintenance
    • Compile maintenance plans for new and existing equipment as may be required.
    • Manage technical information (manuals, drawings, etc.) where required
    • Ensure completion of statutory maintenance timeously
    • Knowledge and application of company procedures as applicable.
    • Determine SHEQ incidents for further analysis and action.
