Job Description:

Our client is the market leader in slurry handling equipment. They currently have a vacancy for a Technical Estimator to provide accurate and detailed estimated costing on pumps and other related OE Equipment on non-standard items.

The successful incumbent will hold a BEng/ BSc Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial Engineering) together with experience in a similar position.

Position details:


  • Preparing, negotiating and analysing costs for tenders and contracts for make to order pumps
  • Determine final costs of projects
  • Assist with compiling the quotes and tenders
  • Provide technical / commercial assistance
  • Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks

Purchasing / Strategic Sourcing

  • Timely submission of requests for quotations (RFQ)
  • Ensure Corporate governance and compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain cost models
  • Apply sourcing policy, interface between supplier and entity with respect to specifications
  • Expedite make to order engineer products
  • Action EDR’s and NDPS for make to engineer products linked to project/sales tender team
  • Ensure changes are implemented and processed accurately on the ERP System on made to engineer products
  • Balance both tactical executions with cost saving initiatives necessary to drive cost reduction projects make to order
  • Assess quotations from potential suppliers

Project Management

  • Report and analyse project savings and costs for projects
  • Develop and co-ordinate project plans
  • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations timeously
  • Monitor project design and manufacturing


  • Assist with technical evaluations
  • Conduct feasibility studies
  • Provide technical support during manufacture
  • Adherence to all statutory HSE regulations and housekeeping / 5S requirements at all times
  • Adhere to Duty of Care Policy at all times
  • Any other additional duties which you may reasonably be required to perform.

Job Qualification & Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BEng/ BSc Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial Engineering) or relevant qualification
  • Member of SACPCMP advantageous
  • Valid Driver’s Licence

Minimum Experience:

  • 7 Years + Experience in Mining, manufacturing /engineering environment
  • 5 Years + Commercial and Project Management experience

Minimum Skills/Abilities:

  • Negotiation Skills
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
  • Planning / Organising
  • Problem Solving / Strong Analytical ability
  • Good Communication skills (Written and oral)
  • Cost Consciousness
