Job Description:

With an ever expanding crop set and experience gained in South Africa, Africa (Namibia, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Morocco, Kenya and Ethiopia) as well as globally (Argentina, Uruguay, Georgia, Turkey, Brazil and Swaziland), our agricultural consulting client boasts a team of professional soil scientists and crop specialists, offering bespoke services for soil management, horticulture and nutrition as well as irrigation and training. The successful candidate will receive valuable exposure through stimulating new agricultural projects, many of which may be abroad. The candidate will receive mentorship where required but should be willing to independently apply him or herself to difficult tasks. The position will require work in isolated areas under tough conditions yet requires professionalism and perseverance at all times.

Position details:

Type: Permanent
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Chemical soil interpretation
  • Writing of reports and articles
  • Processing and interpretation of GIS data
  • Providing recommendations for soil resource management and orchard establishment

Location (country, city): Nelspruit, Mpumalanga

Job Qualification & Experience:

Academic requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in agriculture majoring in Soil Science
  • A Master’s degree in Soil Science or Horticulture is preferred but is not a requirement for application.
  • Horticulture as part of the Bachelor’s degree is beneficial but is not a requirement for application.
  • Work experience is beneficial but is not a requirement for application.

Desired skills and qualities:

  • Computer literate (MS Office)
  • Willing to travel extensively locally and internationally
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Bilingual (writing & speaking, English prerequisite, Afrikaans beneficial)
  • Attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn
  • Physically fit and healthy
  • Understanding of horticultural crop production
  • Interest in climate and related studies
