Job Description:

Our client, a well-known provider of professional technical and construction services, with revenues of nearly $10 billion, has an opportunity for a Senior Civil/Structural Designer. The post will require an experienced CSA designer who has built up knowledge and wisdom through immersion and exposure to independently produce designs and deliverables of consistently high quality. The person must contribute to the design capacity of the office rather than simply produce drawings as instructed.

Job Description

Produce and check design deliverables whilst ensuring a high level of quality and completed within the allocated budget and schedule.
Civil and structural layouts and details for new infrastructure and / or modifications to existing.
Travel to client facilities to perform surveys where required, for modification to existing plants, including site review, measurement and client archive document retrieval.
Produce 3D CAD models for CSA facilities. This would include preliminary and final civil and structural modelling, which will be used to produce preliminary and / or final detailed design drawings for FEED or construction.
Produce concrete reinforcement layouts and associated bending schedules for construction.
Participate in 3D model reviews both internally and client reviews of own designs and those of designers under his/her supervision.
Squad checking deliverables of other disciplines and vendor documentation, including steelwork vendor shop fabrication drawings.
Checking, reviewing and marking-up of drawings, ensuring quality, compliance and adherence to national, client and company standards.
Technical construction support where required.
Contribute as part of the CSA design team on a project.
Interact with clients to acquire information and design requirements for project work.
Apply technical knowledge and skills to perform design, detailing and checking tasks.
Consistently deliver professional deliverables to the standards and procedures required.
Ongoing career development through continuous growth and learning and assist / mentor junior designers.

Job Qualification & Experience:

Matric, N3 or equivalent.
At least 15 years of actual project experience in CSA design, preferably within the Petrochemical industry, whilst working for reputable engineering and construction companies.
2D and 3D CAD experience.
Onsite experience in field survey and client document archive search.
A high level of computer literacy with good skills in MS Office software and other applications.
Able to develop expertise in specialised draughting-related software.
Able to problem solve independently through research and information gathering via library, internet, supplier catalogues and technical contacts.
Experienced in the use and application of SANS and other relevant industry codes, practices and specifications.
Experienced in estimating and scheduling of CSA design activities.
A valid driver’s license and the ability / willingness to travel.
