Job Description:

Our client provides a wide product range to the steel industry in South Africa from their modern and comprehensive steel service centres and specialty steel divisions. The plant has a very low staff turnaround, a testament to the great working environment and culture, and the business is expanding.

They are looking for a qualified candidate, fully vaccinated. The individual must have a relevant tertiary qualification, be strong in Maths and Science, and have at least 5 years of experience in an Internal Sales/ Planning/ Logistics environment. SAP knowledge would be important, and experience in the steel or related industry would be advantageous as that will mean you have a good working knowledge of for example plate, structural, speciality steel and Automotive products.

Reports to: Branch Manager
Primary purpose: Lead, manage and focus the sales team’s activities to achieve the projected/budgeted revenue targets for pre-defined market segments. Manage stock and buyouts.

Job description / core competencies
• Overall responsibility for all sales and stock related activities within defined segments.

  • Direct management responsibility for the Internal Sales and inventory team in the defined segments.
  • Develop methods to gain and report market intelligence related to defined segments
  • Setting and reviewing of sales budgets and forecasts for defined segments assist.
  • Develop a sound strategy to grow our share of the defined market segments
  • Define KPI’s for Sales team to translate strategy into action plans
  • Quarterly review of performance management system and KPI’s for team members.
  • Create development plans for team members and initiate training of individuals as required.
  • Maintain and manage the discipline of the internal sales team.
  • Assist with the improvement of SAP procedures and reporting in order to effectively manage customer pipelines (MRP).
  • Manage all related admin functions within the prescribed quality system to ensure maximum levels achieved during ISO/TS Audits.
  • Continuous customer interaction to build long term relationships, provide excellent service levels and ultimately grow our market share as well as to resolve customer complaints and address customer problems.
  • Timely notification to Management of any issues that may impact the company’s operations i.e. market conditions that may adversely affect our business i.e. financial issues, labour issues and competitor activity.
  • Setting and maintaining ad hoc pricing tactics in conjunction with sales teams along with the required controls to ensure that the prices are implemented and utilized effectively.

• Maintain and strengthen internal interaction with the various divisions in the Group as well as companies within the Group to ensure that we meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.

Job Qualification & Experience:

Academic qualifications:
Matric strong Maths and English will be advantageous
BCom or relevant 3 Years Tertiary Qualification.

Minimum 5 Years Internal Sales/ Planning/ Logistics environment work experience
SAP Knowledge
Preferably with experience in steel or related industry. Should have working knowledge of plate, structural, tube, speciality steel and automotive products.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Must have sound knowledge of inventory control
  • Must have the ability to negotiate at all levels within the customer’s organisation.
  • Must be able to close deals on a daily basis.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to effectively manage a Sales team.
  • Must be computer literate – Power Point, Word and Excel – must be able to manipulate and analyse data in Excel.
