Job Description:

Our client provides a wide product range to the steel industry in South Africa from their modern and comprehensive steel service centres and specialty steel divisions. The plant has a very low staff turnaround, a testament to the great working environment and culture, and the business is expanding.

 

They are looking for a qualified candidate, fully vaccinated. The individual must have at least 5 years of working experience, preferably with experience in steel or related industry. Should have working knowledge of plate, structural, speciality steel and Automotive products.

 

The Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha branch was opened in the early 2000’s after the acquisition of a steel company. The branch has since seen 3 major extensions to the facility and now boasts some of the most technologically advanced steel processing machinery in the country. The 30 000m² facility offers the full range of automotive steel for OEMs, 1st and 2nd-tier, and delivers to the automotive market with a just in time (JIT) delivery service, processed from their unique coil processing production lines. They also cater to the construction industry, stocking the full range of structural steel carried within the group. Being located close to the harbour eases the importing of increasingly complex grades of automotive steel.

 

Products include: Long Products, Sections, Sheet and Plate, Slitting Material, Special Steel, Roof Sheeting and Tube.

Services include: Blanking, Export & Trading Services, Guillotining, Slitting, Special Steels Services and Supply Chain Management.

 

Position details:

 

Type: Permanent

Reports to: Admin Manager

Job summary: The incumbent will be responsible to coordinate and control administrative functionalities within the division including facilitating and supporting the recording, updating, circulation of maintenance of information from / to the regions with regards to various activities. Assist in the efficiency and the practical implementations of the production function to ensure that customers are serviced within the specified time limits as per warehouse instructions and marketing commitments.

 

Key performance areas (duties & responsibilities):

  • Liaise and communicate regularly with internal and sales department / external customer’s regarding administration
  • Controlling of pricing for customers and following pricing structures put in place by the Commercial Manager
  • Continuous customer interaction to build long term relationships, provide excellent service levels and ultimately grow our market share
  • Identify and implement areas of continuous improvement
  • Timely notification to management of any issues that may impact the company’s operations i.e. market conditions that may adversely affect our business
  • Ensure Supervisors are kept up to date with relevant information
  • Plan and schedule workflow for production facility and activities
  • Maintain and strengthen internal interaction with the various divisions in the company as well as companies within the Group to ensure that we meet and exceed our customers’ expectations
  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance to SHEQ policies, procedures and standards
  • Perform general administration functions and provide support on matters concerning administrative functions

Job Qualification & Experience:

Academic qualifications:

  • Must have a matric / grade 12 qualification
  • Tertiary qualification related to the position will be essential

Experience:

  • 5 Years work experience preferable
  • Preferably with experience in steel or related industry. Should have working knowledge of plate, structural, speciality steel and Automotive products

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Must have the ability to negotiate at all levels within the customer’s organisation
  • Must be able to close deals on a daily basis
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to effectively manage a Sales team
  • Must be computer literate – PowerPoint, Word and Excel – must be able to manipulate and analyse data in excel
