Job Description:

Reporting to the STE Breeder, the incumbent for this position will manage all the technical aspects of Subtropical eucalyptus (STE) tree breeding, nursery management and field operations specified in the annual plan of operations in accordance to the Tree Improvement Standard Operating Procedures manual and the company’s Silviculture manual.

Job Qualification & Experience:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12
  • National Diploma in Forestry
  • 3 Years in tree improvement and/or silviculture
  • Attendance to a tree breeding course through CAMCORE/CSIR
  • Experimental design and management style
  • Knowledge of silviculture practices and operations
  • Good data management skills: acquisition, accuracy and reporting
  • Resource allocation and optimization
  • MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must be reliable and be able to work independently
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Code EB Driver’s License
  • Ensures all tree improvement work is performed according to the company’s safety standards
  • Manages the sub-tropical tree improvement team and contractors.
  • Ensures that the sub-tropical tree improvement APO gets carried out within the budget
  • Co-ordinates propagation of genetic material for tree improvement trials
  • Ensures establishment and maintenance of tree improvement trials
  • Supervise the wood sampling team when working in Zululand
  • Co-ordinates control pollinations
  • Assesses tree improvement trials
  • Maintains all trial information (trial files, maps, trial descriptors, trial status, etc.) and ensures that it is up to date
  • Captures and edits trial data
