Job Description:

Our client currently has an opportunity for a QC Manager to be responsible for the implementation and management of the quality control activities including the coordination, performance and execution of quality control plans for the projects. The QC Manager will be securing quality in a way that supports maximum efficiency of the production and project activities by formulating the quality policy (including quality standards and norms), supervising implementation, after implementation and monitoring enforcement.

Besides managing the QC department as well as coordinating and managing improvement projects, the QC Manager is an important initiator of product and process improvements. The successful incumbent will have completed higher technical studies, a diploma / degree / course in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering together with at least 5 years of experience in the shipbuilding industry.

Position details:

Determining quality policy (using quality standards and norms) for the entire production chain.
­Determining the verification process of the projects.
­Stimulating and motivating management and employees in quality thinking and improving product quality.
Ensuring policy implementation regarding quality control in such a way that efficient implementation and assurances of these quality processes is realized in the short and longer term. To this end:
­-Ensuring implementation and standardization of quality procedures with regard to production within the organization.
­-Advising management and / or managers on optimizing working methods and control points.
­-Testing various plans, projects and activities within the organization for quality aspects.
­-Ensuring uniformity of QC processes in colaboration with company’s international head office QC department.
Ensuring assessment of quality performance with regard to products / production.
Ensuring timely and correct adjustment of findings and ensuring that action is taken to minimize the risk of repetitive errors. To this end in outline:
­-Preparing product and process quality reports by collecting, analysing and summarizing information and observing trends.
­-Periodic analysis of QC inspections and reports (snagR).
­-Making improvement proposals (solicited and unsolicited) based on analyzes and providing feedback.
­-After consultation with other departments propose concrete improvement actions towards organization.
Managing the verification process of the project.
Taking care of inspections and tests during construction, factory acceptance tests (FAT), delivery and commissioning in order to make sure all contractual obligations are met.
­Preparing and submitting quality control plan (QCP) and QC procedures for projects.
­Ensuring that all necessary inspections as identified in the approved QCP are attended to by a suitable QC Inspector and where necessary class and client.
­Establishing in-process inspection standards that align with production methods; to ensure effective and efficient execution of in QCP.
­Controlling the quality of incoming materials and equipment in accordance with technical requirements and company standards.
Maintaining product quality by enforcing quality procedures as well as regulatory and client requirements.
Maintaining good record keeping of activities carried out and inspection reports, surveillance reports, etc. and updated progress reports.
Investigating identified quality issues and developing effective corrective actions.
Issuing and managing a non-conformity report (NCR) or quality observation report when non-conformance work or discrepancy was found, and following up when the NCR work done by relevant / respective department to close NCR or quality observation.
­Reviewing the calibration status of any test equipment being utilized in production.
Reviewing of welder qualifications, WPS, WPQ, equipment and consumables.

Job Qualification & Experience:

Educational level
– Higher technical studies, diploma / degree / course in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering.

Knowledge/experience
– 5 Plus years of experience in the shipbuilding industry;
– Minimum 5 years of leadership experience;
– Minimum 6-9 years of experience in Quality Assurance and/or Quality Control;
– Knowledge of fabrication and installation work for shipbuilding;
– Knowledge of International Quality Standards, Class Society Rules and regulations;
– Knowledge in building and operating quality management system, such as ISO 9001.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
– Code 08 (or EB) driving license.

Company Description:

To date, our client has constructed & delivered 40 vessels to the African continent (countries include South Africa, Zanzibar, Angola, Kenya and many more). Vessel types constructed and delivered to date have included offshore patrol vessels, dredgers, tugs, naval craft and supply vessels.
