Job Description:

Our client is looking for a Project Engineer to provide to provide support to project engineering within the business. The ideal candidate for this position will be a person with sufficient maturity to command respect from those he/she deals with, whilst possessing enough energy and passion. The successful candidate will be an Engineering Graduate with 5 – 10 years of experience within an EPCM / EPM environment doing projects ideally in the mining and minerals sector. and will be registered as a professional engineer.

Position details:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will work as a Project Engineer to manage the total engineering integration and output and to ensure the overall project is completed on time, within budget and to the required quality level, within the constraints of legal requirements to meet contract requirements.

You will be expected to:

Project Life Cycle
Manage integration of engineering disciplines
Manage the overall integrity of engineering while meeting the project objectives
Provide input into the Project Set up Phase
Develop front end schedule
Lead, manage and facilitate the engineering scope and schedule as per contract and project schedule.
Review and implement the discipline input into engineering schedule.
Provide engineering input to non-engineering activities
Identify basic design packages for outsourcing (where applicable).
Identify and expedite early order requirements
Create and manage an engineering base line (man-hour) high level budget and WBS.
Regularly review following discipline validation
Continuously review design material quantities and costs against budgets. Report and manage variances.
Project QA plan input
Ensure accurate reporting on progress, forecast and changes to approved financials and resources
Define deliverable progress measurement standards and enforce on engineering service providers
Conduct planning and feedback meetings.
Input towards, and review of POP
Implement, review and approve Discipline Design criteria, while ensuring design-criteria are followed.
Ensure fit for purpose/cost optimised design throughout engineering lifecycle.
Ensure skill set’s available to limit financial over-runs/commitments.

Change Control Identification and Definition
Implement Change Management System
Brief Project Engineering team on system and estimating process
Initiate and manage the change register/diary effectively
Timeous identification, costing, expediting and communication of changes and implementation of associated documentation.
Revise baseline due to effect of changes and adjust budgets and forecasts with PM to suit changes
Adjust schedule to suit changes

Relations (Internal & External)
Guide and lead all discipline lead into a cohesive team to meet project objectives
Development of high-performance engineering team
Lead by example and encourage open communication and a Safe reporting environment
Empower team members recognising good performance
Ensure feedback to FM’s on members performance and capabilities
Corrective action of sub- standard performance
Ensure that all appropriate project tools are available and that people resources are allocated

Legislation, Policies & Procedures
Safety – Apply global SHE standards and ensure compliance
Quality – Ensure all QA procedures and guidelines are followed in all daily activities
Participate in quality assurance audits.

Systems and Procedures
Ensure adherence to the internal Project Management Operating System
Implement and update project procedures and systems and adapt or revise where required to ensure project fit
Ensure compliance to company policies (project specific)

Continuous Improvement
Provide suggestions for improving internal work methods and procedures on an ad-hoc basis.

Compile and manage own development plan

Job Qualification & Experience:

Engineering Graduate with 5 – 10 years’ experience within an EPCM / EPM environment doing projects ideally in the mining and minerals sector, and will be registered as a professional engineer.
