Job Description:

Our client, a well-known provider of professional technical and construction services, with revenues of nearly $10 billion, has an opportunity  an experienced piping designer to be based in Cape Town, who has built up knowledge and wisdom through immersion and exposure to independently produce designs and deliverables of consistently high quality. The person must contribute to the design capacity of the design office rather than simply produce drawings as instructed.

The ideal candidate will have a Matric, N3 or equivalent with at least 15 years of actual project experience in piping design in the petrochemical industry whilst working for reputable engineering and construction companies.

Following experience is required: 2D and 3D CAD experience; Autocad; Microstation; OpenPlant; Cadworx; Smart 3D; onsite experience in taking measurements; install and develop expertise in specialised draughting-related software; problem solve independently through research and information gathering via library, internet, equipment catalogues and supplier contacts; experienced in the use and application of ASME B31.3 and other relevant industry codes and specifications; a valid driver’s license, as well as willing and able to travel.

Position details:

Plant layout for new infrastructure and produce plot plans.
Travel to sites to perform surveys where required for modifications to existing plants including site measurements.
Identify and tag piping tie-ins and obtain the required internal and client approvals.
Produce 3D models for piping and mechanical equipment. This includes preliminary civil and structural modelling which will be further detailed by civil and structural designers and engineers.
Support 3D model reviews both internally and client reviews.
Squad checking deliverables of other disciplines and vendor documentation.
Add all relevant piping attachments required for supporting, stress engineer’s requirements and items indicated on the P&ID’s.
Download isometric drawings and piping arrangement drawings according to the company’s and client’s specifications and standards.
Mark-up P&ID’s of piping requirements to suit the piping design and obtain the required approvals.
Checking, reviewing and marking-up of drawings, ensuring quality, compliance and adherence to company standards.
Support construction where required.

Apply technical skills to perform engineering design, detailing and draughting tasks.
Consistently deliver professional deliverables to the standards and procedures.
Ongoing career development through continuous growth and learning and assist junior and senior designers.

Job Qualification & Experience:

Matric, N3 or equivalent.
At least 15 years of actual project experience in piping design in the petrochemical industry whilst working for reputable engineering and construction companies.
2D and 3D CAD experience.
Onsite experience in taking measurements.
A high level of computer literacy with good skills in spreadsheets, MS Office and other applications.
Able to install and develop expertise in specialised draughting-related software.
Able to problem solve independently through research and information gathering via library, internet, equipment catalogues and supplier contacts.
Experienced in the use and application of ASME B31.3 and other relevant industry codes and specifications.
A valid driver’s license, as well as willing and able to travel.
