Our client is looking for a Civil/Structural Engineer to provide to provide support to civil/structural engineering within the business.
The ideal candidate for this position will be a person with sufficient maturity to command respect from those he/she deals with, whilst possessing enough energy and passion. A successful history and background in project engineering with dynamic and modelling capability is required, supported by B.Sc. / B.Eng. or B. Tech graduate and will be registered as a professional engineer, with more than 10 years’ experience in producing cost effective and technically sound civil/structural designs within the required time frame to support project deliverables within an EPCM / EPM environment doing projects ideally in the mining and minerals sector.
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will work as a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to produce cost effective and technically sound civil/structural designs within the required time frame to
support project deliverables.
You will be expected to:
Project Life Cycle
Develop a discipline strategy and design criteria to suit the unique project/client requirements.
Adhere to the project program.
Ensure planning of activities are regularly monitored and updated to achieve project deliverables timeously. This includes the expediting of technical information through continual.
engineering input to external and internal stakeholders.
Attend relevant project meetings and produce regular project status reports.
Generate post-project feedback.
Produce cost-effective and safe civil/structural designs.
Produce tender and project civil/structural designs. Compare and assess project vs tender scope.
Review alternatives and cost effectiveness.
Produce quantity and man-hour budgets and list associated with scope.
Work closely with-in scope, quantity budget and man-hour budget.
Understand project scope, quantity allowances and man-hour budget.
Monitor changes to scope and effects to quantity and man-hour budget and ensure authorisation to changes and compliance with quantity allowances.
Verify civil/structural engineering software packages.
Be fully conversant with restrictions and qualifications of software.
Order of magnitude check of analysis results.
To maintain an effective record-keeping system for calculations, correspondence and technical information.
Indexing, records, design criteria and calculations.
Referencing to location of software input, numbers, dates and signatures.
Client Relations (Internal & External)
To interact efficiently with Drawing Office and other departments.
Guide and liaise with Drawing Office and provide engineering, safety and ergonomic input during conceptual layout phase and on-going assistance during engineering stage.
Ongoing review of internal circulation drawings and timeous approval of final drawings for construction.
Providing continual engineering input to suppliers and sub-contractors.
Understand and respond to needs of other disciplines.
Adopt customer- orientated approach.
Co-ordinate delivery of information.
Legislation Policies & Procedures
Adhere to Company specifications, guidelines and statutory codes of practice
Apply global SHE standards and ensure compliance
Regularly review and contribute towards improvement of procedures and systems
Ensure all QA procedures and guidelines are followed in all daily activities
Participate in quality assurance audits
Monitor vendor quality
Monitor site quality
Systems and Procedures
Ensure adherence to the internal Project Management Operating System
Apply and review associated discipline Engineering Standards
Approve all drawing issued for construction by signing, dating and including the engineer/technologists professional registration number
Provide suggestions for improving internal work methods and procedures and technological solutions on an ad-hoc basis, according to customer’s needs

Job Qualification & Experience:
10 years’ experience in producing cost effective and technically sound civil/structural designs within the required time frame to support project deliverables within an EPCM / EPM environment doing projects ideally in the mining and minerals sector.
B.Sc. / B.Eng. or B. Tech graduate and be registered as a professional engineer
