Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineer’s responsibilities are to conduct various engineering activities required on petrochemical and cryogenic projects to ensure the integrity and legal compliance of pressure equipment for clients. The mechanical engineering work is mainly related to ensuring the integrity and legal compliance of pressure equipment used in the petrochemical and cryogenic industry / environment and providing engineering assistance during all phases of the projects.

Travel requirements: May need to travel to sites on occasion – all locally based currently.

Position details:
The essential duties applicable to the job include the following:

Work within a multidiscipline project environment.
Carries out selected items of engineering and design work when required.
Prepare project specific technical documentation (e.g. data sheets, technical specifications, etc.) needed for enquiries.
Perform the following engineering for the procurement of mechanical equipment (conduct technical bid evaluations, document/design reviews, manufacturing meetings, end-of-job document review and site/construction assistance).
Importers conformity assessments of pressure equipment to PER/SANS347.
Engineering support to internal & external parties.
Managing Suppliers and subcontractors during project phases (e.g. AIA).
Mechanical document control of own projects.
Obtain and apply knowledge and application of the company’s E&C standards, relevant International standards, and local legislation (PER/SANS347)
Have reasonable knowledge of mechanical equipment (static and rotating)
Apply department tools, templates, procedures, specifications and software.
Assistance with development of the above tools, templates, procedures, specifications and other mechanical department activities when required.
Take ownership of jobs and provide quality engineering work and deliverables.
Identify any engineering risks on projects, and manage technical and contract changes.
Manage personal man-hours and schedule commitments on projects.
Staying up-to-date with latest developments & training.
Works together with all levels of the personnel within the company.
Works with other entities on a global basis.
Works with client and vendor companies as required.

Job Qualification & Experience:

A degree in mechanical engineering.
Registration as Candidate Engineer with ECSA is preferential.
At least 3 years’ experience in mechanical work within the petrochemical and cryogenic environment.
Exposure/experience to mechanical design software packages.
SASOL or similar experience is beneficiary.
