Job Description:

Our client currently has an opportunity for a Management and Project Accountant.
The purpose of this role is to provide a professional Management Accounting service to the business unit to improve efficiency, cost reductions, maximise profits and to supply meaningful, relevant, and accurate information timeously as a tool for decision making.

Position details:

Primary purpose:

This position prepares managerial reports, financial statements and support the management accounting reporting cycle by preparing management reports and analysing variances.
Provide a professional Project Accounting support to the Manager Project & Engineering by providing details cost analysis including commitments, updating project schedules, completing reporting packs and performing administration function while ensuring that all project documentation is updated on a regular basis to reflect the status of all projects.
The position will report directly to the GM : Refinery and Fabrication and takes functional guidance from management accounting office.
Matrix reporting line to Senior Manager Finance and Manager Projects and Engineering.

Major Responsibilities

Management Accounting
Implement and maintain adequate financial and budgetary controls, which include management reporting, to ensure the safeguarding of the companies monetary and physical assets.
Compile budget, monthly cost reports, variance analysis, forecasting and planning.
Ensure all costs are complete, accurate and processed to the correct cost centres.
Ensure all transactions are captured in SAP as per agreed timetable by providing regular feedback to users on progress and to work closely with the management accounting office.
Manage end to end (create, maintain, close-of) accuracy of capital projects lifecycle on SAP.
Analyse & report on all capital projects within business unit.
Load project budget and review project costs monthly.

Monthly Project and Cost Meetings
Completeness of commitments.
Review all cost centre report & ensure usage of resources is in line with cost.
Accurately prepare Management Accounts in conjunction with management accounting office to be presented at various Committee meetings.
Act as a centre of competency for SAP-CO (Management Accounting) & SAP-PS (projects) in area of responsibility.
Support budget holders in developing & monitoring plans.
Assist with annual budget preparation
Co-ordinate budgets by assisting budget holders, performing reasonable test on information received from budget holders and from the management accounting office.
Review & comment on Budgeted P&L from management accounting office.

Financial Control
Accurately capture business unit journals (transfer pricing, provisions, etc.)
Create & maintain a repository of all key financial documents.
Respond to internal audit review & implement action plan within agreed timeline.
Liaise with & respond to external auditor on matter relating to work of section. Prepare & provide financial recommendation on various requests from Business Unit Manager & Management Accounting office.
Implement external audit recommendation within agreed timeline.
Accurately download TB & map accounts by ensuring management account balances to TB. Facilitate capital expenditure justification process.
Accurately prepare Management Accounts i.e., by ensuring they agree to TB as well as provide commentary on various line items by comparing actual to budget to forecast & to previous years.
Support management accounting office with various adhoc request.
Improve reporting timelines and quality of reports.

Systems Improvement & Procedures
Improve procedure & value adding reporting and analysis.
Optimise SAP reporting systems.
Use reporting tools e.g., QlikView to improve dashboard reporting.

Reporting and Other
Oversee the fixed assets reporting process and guide the asset clerk.
Other – Extract reports for management and perform statistical analysis to present statistical knowledge.
Check vendor reconciliations (Act Payable)

Project Accounting
Open and maintain all projects on SAP.
Ensure completeness and accuracy of all project costing and commitments.
Compilation of monthly project schedules and reports for the PRC.
Monthly project review meeting with Head of projects.
Prepare monthly project cash flow forecast.
Manage FX exposure on projects and report monthly.
Administration functions as required by Head of Projects.
Updating and maintain documents on Share Point.
Post Project analysis and review to determine if financial objectives have been met.
Accurately calculate and issue costs for the various new projects, Accurate, timeous, correct costings.
Assist the Projects manager with the preparation of cost budgets and the reconciliation thereof onto the SAP.
Reconcile the asset register monthly and balance with CAPEX sheet, Accuracy, and manager’s feedback.
Perform the ongoing improvements on the development and costing models to ensure assistance with the project costings, Effective costing models, managers feedback.
Continuous adherence to IFRS regulations and procedures, Standards adherence, and no comebacks.

Job Qualification & Experience:

Preference will be given to candidates that possesses a tertiary qualification degree in Management Accounting or related qualification.
Preference will be given to a candidate that possesses a CIMA accreditation.

Knowledge and Experience
Preference will be given to a candidate that has at least 5 years’ experience in cost & management accounting and Project Accounting.
Knowledge of Financial Management: Fundamental Accounting Concepts & Principles, Management Accounts reporting (Income statement only), Implement Internal controls and adherence, Financial Management Analysis (ratio analysis, trend analysis, sensitivity analysis, scenario/simulation analysis).
Knowledge of Management Reporting & Systems: Financial modelling, System analysis, Design & Implementation of Management Reports, SAP ERP systems (CO- Management Accounting) and basic understanding of the other SAP modules such as Finance & Material Management.
Knowledge of Management Accounting Analysis: Cost volume profit analysis, Break-even analysis, Trend & sensitivity analysis, Contribution Margin Analysis, Cost benefit analysis, Scenario planning.
Knowledge of Capital projects financial management: Discounted cash flow techniques (NPV-Net present value, IRR-internal rate of return, ROI, payback period, etc) SAP Projects (PS-Projects).
Knowledge of Management Evaluation Tools: Types of responsibility Accounting Centres (Revenue, cost, profit & investment), Responsibility accounting systems (controllability, performance reports, etc), Quarterly Scorecard inputs.
Knowledge of Budgeting and forecasting: The budget process, types of budgets (master budget, activity-based budgeting, zero based budgeting), Adjustments to Budgets using flexible budgeting, cash budgeting, variance analysis (price, volume, mix, spending, etc.), Forecasting of future results based on current information & assumptions.
Knowledge of Cost Management: Analysing and interpreting the nature of the cost, classification of cost (variable, fixed, etc.) Product costing understanding of the flow of cost within a manufacturing environment Service cost allocation, variable or direct vs absorption costing, cost of capacity.
Process costing, activity-based costing & standard cost systems.
Fixed assets and Work in progress knowledge-Knowledge about purchasing, depreciating and classify assets.
Project DCF Knowledge-Know NPV, IRR, ROI, and Payback Methods.
Budgetary knowledge-Be fully compliant with the disciplines of budgeting.
Cost calculations and systems knowledge-In depth knowledge of different methods of costing and the systems used.
IFRS, Tax, SOX knowledge-Know the requirements of these legislations.
