Job Description:

For a fully operational mine and processing plant with the latest infrastructure – ore production over 3 million tons per year and growing.

Position details:
3 month contract with accommodation ( potential to go permanent)

Reports to: Human Resource Manager (part of EXCO).

Primary purpose

Full hand over and management of the Human Resource department from the acting Human Resource Manager until the New executive Human Resource Manager takes ownership.

Manage the general functions of HR.

Job description / core competencies:

Recruitment and Selection:
Ensure quality recruitment practices are implemented and adhered to by the HR team, with a focus on minimizing recruitment costs;
Complete the full recruitment function from Job Advertisement stage, offer stage to onboarding;
Oversee the On-boarding and Induction process for new recruits;
Manage exit processes effectively and ensuring exit interviews are conducted.

Employment Equity:
Compile and submit employment equity report
Coordinate employment equity & skills development committee meetings
Ensure compliance with Employment Equity objectives in line with the Employment Equity plan

Employee Relations:
Facilitate IR related matters whilst providing sound advice to Management on cases relating to misconduct, poor performance, incapacity, grievances, and CCMA referrals;
Work closely with Managers and employees, providing guidance and support on the full range of HR activities (including policies and procedures, terms and conditions of employment and absence management), to ensure a consistent and fair approach to people management;
Ensure that Managers and employees are aware of the policies and procedures and can implement them effectively;
Arbitrating Labour disputes in collaboration with Legal Department.

HR Budget control and monitoring
Ensure headcount execution against plan
Give inputs on budgeting and workforce planning process;

HR Administration:
Develop HR Policies and Procedures and ensure consistent application
Coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual HR reporting;
Coordinate the creation and maintenance of positions and organization structures on HRIS (Premier HR);
Consult and advise managers and employees on various day-to-day HR practices;
Supervise HR staff on employee leave administration and payroll submissions
Monitor and ensure compliant HR practices.

Employee Benefits and Employee Wellness:
Collaboration with Payroll department in facilitating communication to staff relevant to provident fund, Medical Aid and Employee Wellness Programmes;
Employee referrals for EAP.

Performance Management:
Act as the custodian for the performance management process and system;
Ensure compliance to performance management processes;
Provide guidance and assistance in setting KPI’s where required;
Monitor functional area KPI’s for alignment to strategy.

Job profiling and grading:
Review and / or develop employees Job Profiles;
Re-structuring and implementation of Job Profiles;
Review and monitor consistency of grades across operations

Job Qualification & Experience:

Strengths / essential characteristics required for the execution of the position’s outputs:

Hands-on and actively engaged, leading well in a crisis – in the thick of the action. You enjoy rhythm and harmony and therefore have the natural ability to create order.

Skills and knowledge:
Demonstrable action planning and project management skills.
Demonstrable managerial skills (planning, leading, organising, controlling).
Professional, excellent verbal and written communication in English, knowledge of one of the most commonly spoken languages locally will be an added advantage.
Communication and networking skills at senior level.
Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.)

Ideally 5 years’ experience working on a mine or in heavy engineering manufacturing.
Key understanding when engaging and negotiating with unions.
Demonstrable successes in managerial positions.
Demonstrable success in Human Resources management and building effective teams (recruitment, performance enhancement & cultural integration).
Demonstrable understanding of labour legislation.
Demonstrable and working understanding of HR systems, e.g. remuneration, payroll, HR information systems, succession planning, talent development, discipline, grievance, collective bargaining, etc.

Appropriate tertiary qualification(s) to support the role requirements.
A tertiary business qualification (MDP, EDP, MBA) would be advantageous.
