Our client currently has an opportunity for a ESH Manager to champion all investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses. They will be responsible for scheduling follow-up investigations to ensure findings are closed out within the defined time period.
The successful incumbent will hold a relevant tertiary qualification together with 5-8 years of experience in a similar position.
Represent company at local interest group meetings, customers and suppliers.
Communicate key SHE performance metrics throughout the organisation.
Ensure ongoing organisational certification with Environmental Management System requirements.
Ensure ongoing organisational compliance with OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management System.
Requirements: Achieve OHSAS 18001 3rd Party Certification.
Contractors: Control the SHE aspects of the activities of contractors & sub-contractors on site.
Legal compliance (health and safety)
Insurance: establish & implement action plans for the company on the findings from the FM Global/ASIB, etc. risk/insurance audits.
Legal requirements: track changes in national, provincial, regional & municipal SHE legislation & liaise directly with statutory bodies when required.

Incorporate legal requirements into the appropriate documentation.
Investigations and audits – audits: design & drive a suitable programme of Safety, Security, Health and Environmental systems audits.
Communicate audit and investigation findings.
Schedule follow-up audits to ensure findings are closed out within the defined time period.
OHS Act Surveys: on receipt of reports from Occupational/Industrial Hygienist, establish & implement action plans from the findings.
Training (health and safety)
Training: define and roll-out organisational training plan on inter alia; SHE Policy, SHE Awareness/Induction, SHE System, Significant Aspects/Impacts, SHE Representatives, Fire Fighting, First Aid, Chemical & PPE, Incident Investigation.
Plan SHE training activities together with the Training Department to minimise the impact on operational activities and outputs.
Safe work manuals/work instructions: review all safe work manuals and SHE work instructions when required.
Emergency preparedness: review emergency preparedness and response plans and implement an annual drill schedule to verify preparedness.
Advice and awareness (health and safety) – safety, security, health and environmentally related topics. Occupational health.
Development of, and/or ensure compliance with corporate and government regulations and standards. Optimising of the protection of the plant and its assets.
Minimise the risk of potential losses for the company & responsible to perform annual risk analysis.
Monitors and evaluates unit performance on key security issues and programs, recommends corrective action programs here appropriate.
Manage a team of individuals.
Training & development of subordinates.
Improve skills of the team & process.

Job Qualification & Experience:
National Diploma /BTech in relevant health, safety and environmental studies.
Qualified ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 Auditor.
Qualified Risk Assessor.
5 – 8 years of experience.
2 years project experience.
