Our client currently has an opportunity for an Engineering Superintendent to oversee the implementation of goals, objectives and priorities for the division.
The successful incumbent will hold a relevant tertiary qualification, GCC and 5 – 8 years’ experience in a similar role.
Monitor procedures and methods to improve the efficiency & effectiveness of engineering services.
Monitor the effective operation and maintenance of plant equipment and systems.
Reduce machine downtime by efficient use of engineering resources.
Initiate and carry out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operation costs.
Participate in pre-engineering and planning of maintenance and shutdown work.
Ensure equipment standardisation and compliance with Central Engineering Machine & Equipment Specification (MES).
Manage the departmental budget (MDC and fixed costs).
Constantly implement cost saving projects or actions to reduce R&M cost (wages, contractors and spare parts).
Proposals / Advice
Keep up to date with new developments, working practices, engineering standards and codes of practice.
Advise management on machine equipment improvements / changes.
Advise Repair and Maintenance Engineer on plant-related problems and provide solutions.
Provide direct reports with advice related to departmental issues.
Provide production with advice regarding problems impacting on machine availability.
Prepare reports, analyses data and make recommendations for improving plant operations.
Ensure clear and precise reports, present technical information and data in an effective manner.
Quarterly and Annual Legal Registers.
Incident investigations and reports relating to lost-time incidents.
Ensure the maintenance of equipment and facilities in a satisfactory operating condition by providing for systematic inspection, detection and correction of incipient failures either before they occur or before they develop into major defects.
Strong liaison with Area Lead Engineer and Utilities & Facilities Engineer.
Ensure equipment compliance with OHSAct and Machinery Regulations, integrating statutory inspections into SAPPM.
Plan, organize, assign, review and evaluate work performance of engineering personnel.
Management requirements: Knowledge, observable & inherent skills, in line with middle management.
Legal Compliance / Regulations
Direct, maintain and enforce the safety program for the maintenance department, review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
Ensure safety of personnel and equipment through compliance with the company’s environmental Health and Safety procedures, as well as occupational health and safety regulations.

Job Qualification & Experience:
Degree / Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering.
Government Certificate of Competency (GCC).
5 to 8 years of experience in the Tyre and Rubber industry.
Proven ability to manage people and other engineering resources as well as to analyse, problem solve and take decisive corrective action.
Cost management and knowledge of pricing procedures for quoting / tendering.
Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering projects and maintenance.
