Job Description:

A leading, science based Agtech company that helps millions of farmers around the world to grow safe and nutritious food, while taking care of the planet. They are now hiring an Engineering Manager at one of their plants in the NorthWest.

Position details:
Type: Permanent
Primary purpose:

As a member of the site leadership team, provide leadership to the function, define & implement strategic initiatives & objectives, use engineering and maintenance principles and expertise to support the overall site objectives and support implementation of the site plans.
To lead and manage the department and resources (personnel, budget, equipment & facilities) to ensure facilities, plant and asset availability, reliability and integrity for safe and efficient operation.
Accountable for the creation of appropriate engineering and maintenance strategies covering mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation disciplines.
To ensure the asset integrity (including statutory requirements) and sustained business use in a safe and efficient manner.
Support to set and maintain HSE & Quality standards across all manufacturing activities using knowledge and leadership skills.
Customer-focused: Timely responds to requests for information and production needs. Ability to work under pressure. Passion for continuous improvement and lead and manage change. Passionate about the Syngenta and site brand.
Results-Oriented: Insistent on HSE and Quality principles and standards. Critical and systematic thinking to establish appropriate measures of success. Attention to detail. To define, implement and continuously improve the department and capabilities and capacity.
To enable effective identification and management of risk scenarios and HSE&Q risks on site including potential tolling and contractor activities.

To drive action management within the department to ensure alignment and progression on all tasks and initiatives across the site and departments.
Development and training of the site engineering team.

Job description / core competencies:

HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment and Quality):
Mitigation of risk to business, people or the environment through continuity and sustainability of expertise in local / statutory requirements.
As part of daily activities drive HSE occupational and process safety, maintain a sustainable high-level HSE&Q performance and the integration of HSE&Q considerations within all existing and new operations and activities.
Identify hazards and ensure controls are implemented before commencing with any task and ensuring proficiency before undertaking the task.
OHSA 16.2 and/or 8.2.i appointee
OHSA GMR 2.1 appointee
Member of the site HSE Committee as a management representative
Member of the site emergency management team

Department:

To lead, manage and implement the departmental functional strategy within the site to ensure legal and internal compliance, maintain a sustainable high-level HSE&Q performance and the integration of HSE&Q considerations within all existing and new operations and activities.
Manage daily engineering and maintenance activities, including compiling, measuring, monitoring and control of departmental objectives, in-house and contractor resources, plans and performance targets, ensuring a strong degree of co-operation across site departments to ensure high levels of customer service and responsiveness. Ensure appropriate KPI reporting.
Predict change and flex resource levels to manage replacement in kind, shutdowns, and business fluctuations.
Support process optimisation, de-bottlenecking, and continuous improvement activities by implementing sustainable methodologies and ways of working.
Develop applicable departmental documentation ensuring compliance to the Site and Syngenta global requirements, local legislation, ISO/Integrated Management System (IMS) methodologies and best practices.
Initiate, contribute to, facilitate, and execute projects (including capital projects) to achieve medium- and long-term production objectives and strategic needs.
Fixed, variable and capital cost performance in line with agreed budgets and targets
Close liaison with the Regional Engineering Manager and Regional Maintenance Manager to ensure efficient use of engineering resources.
Ensure that process, product, and organizational changes, are effectively managed and conform to requirements to ensure changes meet design intent and achieve site strategy including following MOC and engineering project processes.
Maintenance and control the Safety Critical Equipment of the Site.

Job Qualification & Experience:

Critical Knowledge
A BSc. Eng or BEng Degree or alternative engineering related qualification.
PrEng or Government Certificated Engineer (GCE) would be an advantage
Sound knowledge of OHSA Act and Legal Liability
Awareness of ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001 standards
Experience in a global organisation and matrix reporting environment.
Familiar with the principles and concepts of Lean Manufacturing
Proficient on computer systems (MS Office etc.)
Maximo and / or SAP PM environment

Critical Experience
A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience in a production and processing environment where HSEQ is critical and non-negotiable.
Financial budgeting, processes, influences and cost controls
Developing and implementing department specific systems and programs
Experience in RCA, FMEA, Hazop and PRA processes
Experienced with Continuous Improvement tools, eg. Fishbone, 5why’s, DMAIC etc.
