Automotive OEM seeks an Engineering Maintenance Specialist with a tertiary qualification (Degree/National Diploma) in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering – or a National Technical Certificate (NTC) 6 + Trade Certificate in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering) – with 3 to 5 years’ proven experience gained as Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor, coupled with 5 to 10 year’s hands-on shop floor experience with manufacturing equipment.
Primary purpose: The incumbent will be based at the Engine Plant and will overall be responsible to support the plant with engineering and maintenance activities and concerns. This includes leading all Maintenance Operating Systems (MOS) activities, continuous improvement actions and ensuring achievement of all metrics as outlined by the company’s production system.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
Lead all Preventative Maintenance (PM) activities by integrating the maintenance activities into the total department business plan and ensuring achievement thereof – two sentences made one.
Maximize equipment effectiveness through a detailed, standardized, and prioritized preventive and predictive maintenance plan designed to improve productivity/ developing preventative / predictive maintenance practices to ensure 100% equipment uptime.
Provide resources, support, and priorities for all maintenance actions; use Maximo for Maintenance database to document all maintenance activities (planned and crisis) and create reports to support continuous improvement.
Lead Constraint Review process and drive maintenance metrics using the the Plant Operating System.
Lead all daily, weekend and shutdown maintenance planning with input from the team(s).
Jointly coordinate maintenance and engineering activities.
Assisting plants in addressing equipment down time issues.
Actively participate in Simultaneous Engineering meetings, Forward Planning and Product Design to ensure Maintainability standards are followed.
Ensure that all maintenance activities of the team are performed safely as per legislative requirements and Ford’s in house safety policies and processes.
Participate in Time & Data Management meetings for scheduling, staffing, procurement, equipment maintenance, inventory control, constraint analysis, quality reviews and the coordination of production activities with co-dependent departments.
Performance Measures/ Success Criteria:
To reduce downtime, prevent a plant stoppage and ensuring quality components are manufactured by effective preventative and predictive maintenance.
Analyse and resolve issues quickly through route cause analysis and drive change back to the production departments.
Consistently applying standard maintenance operating system (MOS) processes as outlined by the company’s production system (FPS).
Validate and bridge operational needs to prevent production line stoppages and/or ensuring that quality components are manufactured through preventative and continous autonomous maintenance.

Three to five years proven experience gained as Engineer or Maintenance supervisor coupled with 5-10 year’s hands-on shop floor experience with manufacturing equipment
Must be prepared to work shifts and overtime
Previous project management experience
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
Knowledge of constraint management principles
Safety and Quality experience is advantageous
Microsoft Office knowledge (Word/Excel/Outlook)
Prior experience managing a unionized work force
Previous CNC machining and Assembly experience
Previous leak test stand experience
Previous experience on operational use of quality tools & metrics.
Previous experience on operational use of maintenance information systems & metrics.

Must possess the ability to analyse and resolve issues quickly through route cause analysis and drive change back to the production department
Must display strong customer orientation with a commitment to upholding plant processes through strict adherence to the Quality Operating System.
Must demonstrate the ability to execute to achieve results, while organizing and managing multiple priorities
Must have a proven willingness to take a participatory approach to union relations and be a team player
Must have the ability to serve as a strong and confident technical mentor to the production organization
Must have strong written and verbal communications skills
