Job Description:

Our client, a global, technology-driven supplier of high-quality products and services to the mining, mineral beneficiation and power generation industries has a senior vacancy for a Projects Manager. In this role you will direct all the engineering, design, quality and project operations of the department to ensure this function runs optimally and efficiently. You will identify and develop teams, optimise processes and implement the incremental shifts required to maximise return and create value for all concerned. With a strong focus on building strategic working relationships, on continuous improvement and finding new solutions to old problems, you and your team will ensure overall customer satisfaction on the projects concluded within the agreed timeframes.

Position details:

Type: Permanent
Primary purpose:

To direct all engineering and project operations for the company. To define the engineering and design activities and responsibilities in order to meet quality objectives and maintain economical production methods. To direct the project management of relevant projects assigned to the department.
Key work outputs (results required): 

Financial management

  • Expenses are managed within budget
  • Annual budget is prepared taking into account staffing and operational needs

Customer satisfaction

  • Optimal utilization of staff
  • Projects are completed within agreed time frames
  • Overall customer satisfaction of end result of projects is facilitated
  • Queries are responded to within 24 hours to client satisfaction

Production support

  • Product divisions are assisted with automation and selection of manufacturing equipment and technologies
  • Production mould issues / problems / designs are investigated and support is provided
  • Opportunities for improving production methods and ergonomics are identified

Design

  • Design capability exists in the department and sufficient designs are completed
  • External consultants are facilitated to enhance the design capability in a cost-efficient manner
  • Good relationships with external design facilities are maintained

Testing, analysis and material science

  • Material selection and specification is approved
  • Material testing and approval is overseen
  • Technology Department is assisted with regards to products, equipment, testing, etc.
  • Material standards and specifications are established that enhance product wear or fatigue life
  • Failure analysis is performed utilizing testing, investigations and root cause analysis

Engineering and standards

  • Projects are completed in accordance with agreed customer expectations (SOW, time and standard)
  • Record keeping system is established and maintained as per departmental requirements
  • Structural approval capacity is established
  • Standards applicable to RSA and internationally are defined
  • Access for Engineers and Project Managers to applicable standards and specifications is provided

Managed projects

  • Projects are managed in accordance with project requirements and contractual obligations
  • Project budgets are compiled and controlled
  • Project Management Information System and Project Documentation Control is maintained
  • Project team/s for the execution of projects are established
  • Site safety and healthy working environment in compliance with legislative requirements and regulations is ensured
  • Project creditors and debtors are managed

Customer/stakeholder liaison

  • Business relationships for the department are planned, selected and developed
  • Monthly reports are prepared and distributed

Managed team

  • Manpower capabilities for the department are planned, selected and developed
  • Company HR and disciplinary policy is adhered to
  • Performance reviews are completed at least bi-annually
  • Team KRA’s are managed
  • Training and development is provided in order for team to fulfil duties

Job Qualification & Experience:

B.Eng or BSc Eng (Electrical)
Relevant business qualification will be advantageous
Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer

At least 10 years’ experience as an Engineer
At least 5 years’ management experience
Practical experience in mechanical and electrical engineering and project management experience
