Primary purpose of current/most recent position:

The primary goal/function was to manage the project materials received,(over 140 million dollars) account for materials, distributions of materials, staff management and end user satisfaction.

Core elements or functions that must operate effectively in order to achieve primary purpose:

1. Staff motivation was critical and regular site visits, training, guidance and communication was top priority.
2. Communication in the form of reports, emails, telephone, site visits, meetings and training was critical. 3. Planning, forecasting, stock taking, actuals versus planned, targets and goals. 4. Ensuring the required equipment, (tonnage versus demand) was sufficient and capable to achieve delivery targets, contracts and sub-contracts negotiated within budget, rental and purchasing plans versus requirements and needs. 5. CFCO (rail) agreements, train schedules and capacity, strategy and planning were key to the success of this, establishing of new/additional laydown areas over a 930 kilometre distance, security and materials control, continuous liaison with contractors, monitoring of progress versus planned and actuals.

Where would you like to be in your career in the next 5 to 10 years, what would you like to have achieved?

I would like for the next 6 years to be in a stable environment, where I can take a department and grow it into an ideal operation. With that I would like to select and groom prospective staff for the Manager’s position to take over from me on my retirement.

Achievements: 

On a Port visit I discovered 210 X 20′ containers that had been in the port for over a year. Documentation got misplaced, and demurrage bills accumulated. This was due to a third party sub-contractor not adhering to procedures. I took over the Port Material Management and started negotiations – new bank letters, documentation from origin and manufactures, proof of paid taxes and duties were obtained – and after negotiations, 60% of the total demurrage bill was voided, with conditions off coarse, and goods were cleared and released.

What do you absolutely love doing?

I love to manage, I love to be creative, I love to come up with suggestions and if permitted, plans of improvement of costs, time delays, new ventures and overall efficiency in terms of support. I love to initiate, to be in the front line, to experience and then return to the drawing table to adjust.
