1. Primary purpose of current/most recent position:
Ensuring compliance to the relevant health and safety standards, as well as ensuring all contractors and in-house personnel providing any form on hot work (welding, cutting, grinding) and NDT (Non- Destructive Testing), are performing their duties as efficiently and cost effective as possible, to the highest quality levels as prescribes and accepted by company.

Drawing up and reviewing of welding procedures.
Consulting and advising the various contractors on the best practices for proposed work to be done.
Plant inspections and technical challenges.
Ensuring that no welding activity has a negative impact on system and mechanical performance.
Reviewing and challenging Scopes of Work and proposed methods.

I have a holistic approach to problem solving and vision casting, which allows me to address the root cause in various situations, instead of merely addressing the symptoms. Also due to my skillset, I am a very diverse and adaptable individual, allowing me communicate to and motivate individuals in their respective fields of expertise. This give me the ability to either fulfill the role of a specialist on the matter or the manage different resources effectively to acquire the required result.

I was able to take the Sootblower System availability accros the Power Station from a 68% availability to a 98% availability. This also resulted in completely removing Sootblower Erosion as a failure mechanism within the boiler. I was able to reduce the weld repair rate within the boiler from around 13% per outage, to as low as 1.48% which is below the world class standard of 3%. This change has resulted in a total cost saving of around R 105 million, across all the outages that occurred in the past 5 years. This year, our boiler serve contract was awarded to a new contractor, and I have managed to complete the first outage with the new contractor with a weld repair rate of 3.48%, and in a recent project I was able to save R 1.38 million in compensation event claims.
