1. Primary purpose of current/most recent position:
Generating designs (with the aid of the draughting office) of ventilation, refrigeration and cooling systems from concept to detailed level, specific to the thermal effects of each site, as well as geometries and usage profiles. Active engagement with industry experts and ultimately the Pr. Eng in finalizing designs.

2. Core elements or functions that must operate effectively in order to achieve primary purpose:
Conceptualization and rationalization of the entire problem, identification of main sections of the design and an applicable expert/resource to aid in designing it robustly and to the appropriate level for the application at hand. A fully on-boarded team. Time management and effective work strategy, i.e. planning which tasks to perform and in what order to achieve deadlines. Communication with the team leader to gain clarity on the work at hand and the deliverables. Managing the delivery of sub-tasks to me, e.g. costing info, drawings by Draughtsmen, etc.

3. Description of self, along with greater purpose and passions:
Creative, fast-learning Design Engineer with a focus on design principles that expand beyond industry-specific needs. Self-motivated as well as a motivating influence within a team. Strong team player recognizing and utilizing strengths of members. I am passionate about solutions that are sustainable, use materials intelligently, and incorporate future needs. I am also highly analytical when it comes to solving complicated systems/problems. I work well in a team and am a naturally motivating influence in maintaining focus towards the end goal. A creative thinker and optimizer. Apart from the flair this brings to important and “enjoyable” work, this also allows me to create value or save time even in the most mundane tasks.

Relative freedom of system and component design (with the aid of experienced professionals who are not too stuck in their ways).
Initial consultation with the client to help define the problem statement (i.e. I want this context and this excitement, not just a task handed to me at the office)

Mechanical design and innovation
System and component design from concept to final design, also taking into account ease of manufacture/supply.
Thermal analysis of airflow systems
Energy efficiency and alternative energy sources
Strong ability to gather advice and design philosophy from experts and bring these together into a robust design. Strong interpersonal skills with suppliers and clients

7. Career summary:
4 years proposal design and hands on project experience with energy savings projects in main and auxiliary ventilation in underground mining.
3 years design and project experience in ventilation, refrigeration and cooling, in underground mining. 7 months: materials handling systems design and construction

8. Achievements: 
While it has not been within my purview to directly save my employer time, money or resources (since I have yet to manage these aspects of a project) I generally meet deadlines ahead of time, allowing planned hours to be spent elsewhere or saved entirely. My achievements also include two published papers in mining ventilation publications.

Designing novel solutions to complex problems
Creative development. R&D work to optimise existing technology
I really enjoy working with a motivated team that shares ideas and all issues facing a design/project, and bringing that together into the most ideal solution in terms of time, resources, and capital.
