General Manager Projects

1. Primary purpose of current/most recent position:

Head up the Projects Department and responsible for the execution and outcome of all projects across the various business lines.
Manage both internal and client stakeholders at a senior level.
Chair formal monthly project reviews and report on the same to the Board.
Ensure project risks are being adequately managed.

2. Core elements or functions that must operate effectively in order to achieve primary purpose:

Regular interface with the project teams to remain up to speed and provide early intervention if required.
Manage obstacles that are impeding the performance of the project team.
Conduct frequent reviews to assess project status with respect to risk management, schedule and budget.
Provide guidance on technical and practical implementation issues.
Make decisions to provide direction and momentum.

5. Key responsibilities and accountabilities of ideal position:

Manage team with a fair degree of autonomy and decision-making authority and to be able to directly influence the project outcomes.
Be directly involved in the concept/initiation phase by adding input based on practical experience.
Review and analyse key project data and parameters to assess actual progress against baseline, costs and commitments against budget and various constraints. Then develop realistic forecast to completion.
Ensure proper interface between various disciplines, departments and functions on the project to ensure working in accordance with agreed strategy, timelines and objectives.
Maintain open and honest communication with client team to develop trust and understanding of shared objectives.
Review designs to assess accessibility, maintainability, constructability and operability.

8. Achievements:

Successfully completed US$145M EPC design, construction and commissioning project for 4Mtpa Concentrator Plant in 2 years as Site PM.
Hot Commissioning of entire 4Mtpa Concentrator Plant in 3 months as Commissioning Manager.
Increased construction revenue two-fold in two years from ZAR100M to ZAR200M, peaking at 5 sites simultaneously and approx. 450 employees.
Completed US$70M brown-fields expansion for a uranium with minimal disruption to production as Client Project Manager.
Opened two project support offices, with over 50 project professionals, in two years as Regional Manager.
Completed entire BFS for new Uranium Mine in under 6 months. Project was subsequently successfully executed in accordance with the study.
Voted as individual with ‘Most Valuable Contribution’ to annual strategic planning conference for multinational company in Canada.
