Current / most recent job title? General Manager

Primary purpose of current/most recent position:

Building a strong competent team to enable the cement business in Rwanda to maximise profit whilst ensuring all stakeholders including employees, customers, suppliers, government, lenders and shareholders expectations are met. My leadership provides a clear vision followed by strategy and action plan implementation whilst Production, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Environment and Morale is managed. Nurturing and developing the team to enable world class performance is my goal.

Core elements or functions that must operate effectively in order to achieve primary purpose:

Cimerwa was commissioned in 2015 and could only achieve 60% of design capacity due to poor project execution. I was tasked with increasing capacity to 100% whilst developing a competent team under very challenging conditions. Non-existent safety and housekeeping standards had to be developed and entrenched to enable the foundation for a disciplined environment for production, engineering, mining, quality, HR and procurement teams. Redesign of key equipment, staff development and professional work standards were created under very challenging businesses and operational environments. This culminated into the successful upgrade of the factory in April 2018.

Description of self, along with greater purpose and passions:

Making a difference in any organisation and in the life of people around me. I strongly believe that we can only achieve exceptional results through well motivated and focussed people. By caring for the people in our teams, equipping them with the tools and skills required and providing focus we enable them to perform. A nurturing environment were mistakes are seen as opportunities to improve allows a team to become creative and energised, exceeding more than even the best manager can achieve on his own through autocratic management.
